The practice of understanding how people organize their thinking, feeling, language and behavior in order to produce results. NLP is interested in the "HOW." How we do what we do, how we think, as a result we better understand our unconscious programming.
It is the Study of the Mind, in particular, how we think about experiences (things) and how we process information.
In other words, NLP is the study of the patterns of thinking, feeling, communicating, and behaving. It is a methodology to understand and help change human behavior and the automatic responses driven by unconscious programmed mind.
"NLP provides a way to look past the behavioral content of what people do to the more invisible forces behind those behaviors; to the structures of thought that allow people to perform effectively,"
Robert Dilts, "Modeling With NLP."
Refers to the nervous system (sympathetic/ parasympathetic); the communication network in the human body. This is the mental filtering system for processing the millions of bits of data being absorbed through our five senses: sight, sound, smell taste, touch and the feelings that are associated with all of those sensations.
We then assign personal meaning to the data being received from the outside world through our five senses. We assign language (verbal and non-verbal) to the internal images, sounds and feelings, tastes and smells, this gets neurologically encoded and organized into our everyday conscious awareness.
The way the language we use shapes and reflects our experience of the world; for example, how we use language to communicate with others and how we perceive other's use of language affects us as well.
The behavioral response that occurs as a result of neurological filtering process, and the subsequent linguistic representation of understanding the meaning we attach to it. It is also training and disciplining ourselves to think, speak and act in positive new ways in order to reach our potential.
