While each person’s experience with hypnosis is unique, it’s important to highlight that anyone can be hypnotized. Entering and exiting a trance, as well as tapping into imagined scenarios, are skills that can be developed over time. Can you recall a time when you were expecting an update or a phone call, the wait was excruciating and your mind fabricated scenarios. Come to find out in the end that the person's phone was unexpectedly out of range. If you have the creativity to imagine the worst-case scenarios, you have the mental capacity to imagine not only the best-case scenarios. The more often you engage in hypnosis, the deeper your experience will become, making it easier to fully benefit from the process. With regular practice, you'll enhance your ability to relax and focus. I will also teach you self-hypnosis as you continue designing the life you want.
Meditation and hypnosis are often compared, but they serve different purposes and engage the mind in unique ways. Meditation is about accepting the present moment, and hypnosis is about changing it.
Despite these differences, both practices are deeply relaxing and empowering, often leaving people feeling more confident and at ease.
Meditation is designed to sharpen and focus the conscious mind. It encourages you to be fully present, concentrating on something like your breath, a sound, or even physical sensations. Over time, meditation helps you cultivate acceptance and mindfulness by teaching you to observe life's circumstances without judgment.
Hypnosis, by contrast, works with the unconscious mind through relaxation and focus. Hypnosis allows you to temporarily set aside present moment awareness to make space for new ideas and behavior changes. Instead of simply being aware, hypnosis helps you reshape thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors.
Hypnosis is often misunderstood as a form of mind control, but in reality, it’s a collaborative process that requires the full consent and participation of the individual. A hypnotist can't make someone do something against their will or values. It's about harnessing your mind's own capabilities, not surrendering control.
In hypnosis, you're always aware and in self-control; the process merely helps you access a relaxed, focused state where your unconscious mind becomes more open to suggestion. Importantly, the individual has the power to accept or reject any suggestions made, which is far from being "controlled" by someone else.
American Psychological Association emphasizes that hypnosis is a legitimate therapeutic tool that supports self-improvement and healing, not manipulation.
In the context of hypnotherapy, "being open to suggestions" means allowing yourself to be receptive to positive ideas or guidance offered during a hypnotic session. When you're in a deeply relaxed, focused state, your unconscious mind becomes more accessible. This makes it easier for you to consider new perspectives or ways of thinking or being without the usual resistance or skepticism from your conscious mind. For example, you can see yourself as a nonsmoker, even if you smoked for 20+ years and haven't been able to stop. You can envision yourself being healthy and successful during your next meeting at work even though you failed last performance. Your imagination has the capacity to release your burdens and fears. You will have access to explore new thoughts that can help you achieve the changes you desire.
During a hypnosis session, the hypnotherapist will illicit questions, assess your goals, get your feedback, outline the process, facilitate relaxation and offer suggestions to meet objectives. The first stage of hypnosis involves commencing relaxation, concentrating attention, and refocusing away from distractions. It is important to remember that the individual remain in control during the process and that most people are able to enter a state of hypnosis. The depth of hypnosis varies from person to person and depending on the type of change work. It is a safe, efficient and easy way to achieve personal goals and make positive changes in one's life.
